White on Black

DSCN6666
This piece was done on black paper using white charcoal. It’s an open composition with a light source coming from the right side. Depth was created in the face, neck and chest by using lighter shading. This creates shadows, along with atmospheric perspective. The value in this drawing is strong, due to the dark, rich color of the hair and the lightness of the shirt and face.
